1.17.13 ~ I just want to let you know that my stay at your hotel last weekend was very enjoyable. The hotel is beautiful, comfortable, the food is great and everyone has a smile on their face. I am returning to Portland the 3rd week of June to a memorial service and I hope to stay at The Regency again. Thank You. Patricia, MA
1.7.13 ~ Good morning and happy New Year!
My husband and I live in Hampden, Maine; and because I was scheduled for back surgery at Maine Medical Center early in the morning on December 31, 2012, we were your guests from the evening of December 30, 2012 through the morning of January 1, 2013. We have stayed with you often; and the same things that have made our time with you memorable and wonderful before, were true of our most recent visit.
Check-in was smooth and efficient, despite a crowd of incoming guests who might well have daunted a less professional staff than the young women working at the front desk. We can’t speak highly enough of their courtesy, promptness, and warm hospitality. The same goes for the valets who fetched and parked our car four times during our stay: despite the raw, cold weather, we could not have asked for more cheerful, prompt service.
We had asked for a room as close as possible to an elevator. Someone thoughtfully remembered that request when our room was reserved: we were literally just twelve steps from the elevator on the third floor. As usual, our room was pretty, comfortable, immaculately clean.
On Sunday night I was able to squeeze in a run on the treadmill in your exercise room. There was a young woman restocking towels while I was running. I told here what I am telling you now — your fitness center is a pleasure to use. It is always clean; the equipment is beautifully maintained, and sturdy and high-end enough to stand up to the most demanding workout; there is always plenty of cold water; and the staff who are in and out of the room are unfailingly friendly, happy, informative, and hospitable.
On Monday night I wasn’t able to leave the room for dinner, so my husband ordered room service. This was a first for us — normally we love to some good wine and delicious food in your restaurant — and we were delighted with the experience. We had rich, steaming-hot, flavorful clam chowder and cream of artichoke hearts bisque; fried haddock; a Reuben sandwich; and salads. We weren’t able nearly to finish all that we ordered, but what we did eat was truly excellent; and despite the fact that the kitchen must have been out straight on New Year’s Eve, our food came up promptly and was served with the warmth and good cheer that is the hallmark of your staff.
We travel often; but no matter where we go or stay, the Regency is our favorite hotel. Your location is perfectly convenient to everything that we like (in this case, need) to do in Portland; your rooms are clean and lovely; and your staff is second to none. You must be so proud of all that you offer to your guests!
Thank you, thank you for all that everyone at the Regency did to make our most recent stay comfortable and happy. We look forward very much to staying with you again soon! Kathryn, ME
12.4.12~ My husband and I stayed at The Regency overnight Saturday, December 1, 2012 for this birthday. It was our first time staying in Portland and I couldn’t be more pleased with our hotel choice. From the moment I made the reservation to checkout, our experience was exceptional. I called for my reservation and was offered a wonderful executive suite for a price that was more than reasonable. So much so, I braced myself on arrival to get the bad news that that room was “unavailable”. Not so. It was a beautiful room, clean, and decorated impeccably. We were welcomed at the door by the valet, helped with our luggage and checked in, with a smile, all within minutes of our arrival. We loved the turndown service, the jacuzzi, gorgeous shower and bose stereo system. The room and hotel had all the amenities you’d expect from a 5-star hotel in a City. The fact that the building was an Armory just added to the charm. Loved your holiday decorations.I can honestly say there was nothing I would have changed about our stay other than I wish it could have been longer. I will be recommending The Regency to all my friends visiting Portland.Thank you for an enjoyable night. Sandra,MA
10.21.12~ We really enjoyed our stay. All of the staff made our 37th anniversary a memorable one. Have bragged about your hotel to all who will listen. LOL. Lynda,OH
10.11.12~ We had a great stay. You upgraded us to the suite, room 429, and we really were comfortable. We also enjoyed the lobby and surroundings. The staff was very helpful included the concierge and valet personal as well as the front desk folks. It was a great get away for my wife and I. Thanks very much. Ian, ME
9.25.12~ My three friends and I occupied two double rooms on September 25th. We were very pleased with our stay: the front desk staff and concierge/parking staff were extremely pleasant and helpful; the rooms were attractive and comfortable; and the breakfast was excellent. I have stayed at the Regency a few times in the past, though not for a few years, and was gratified that my return stay was as positive an experience as I remembered from the past. Judith, MA
9.21.12~ I was at the Regency last week, and it was a wonderful experience. All the staff were friendly and helpful. My room was wonderful—the bed was very comfortable and the bathroom with the stall shower was an added bonus. I can’t wait to visit again. Dawn, TX
9.12.12~ We found the Regency to be an excellent hotel. We felt the valet service was particularly exceptional. The gym was excellent, the help there was helpful, the restaurant was excellent, the help there was outstanding. Our bathroom was excellent. We received help at the desk in response to questions about hotel service and things available in the city. We were given excellent directions to exit the city of Portland. I did not feel greatly moved to use the internet. Signing on was confusing and I had the impression from a customer who tried to use it that it was slow. Jon, MD
9.8.12~ We stayed at the Portland Regency Hotel for 2 nights after Labor Day. When booking, I noticed the room rate was lower on Expedia than on the hotel website; I called the hotel to see if there was a difference in the rooms offered. The Expedia rooms are lower lever rooms without the balcony (we wanted a balcony) so ended up booking though the hotel directly for a slightly higher rate. I think it was worth the extra $; the balcony was a nice addition to the room (we left the door open while we were in the room to let the breeze come in). We found everyone at the hotel really helpful, especially the concierge/ guys that picked us up from the airport and took us back. They were able to recommend local places to eat and also helped give advice about day trips. I should add they were very prompt in getting us from the airport as well as taking us back.
Bed was comfortable, coffee good (Keurig machine in the room), large bathroom, and as mentioned we enjoyed the balcony. We also had a couples massage at the spa which was wonderful (my husband’s masseuse was Katie and mine Maggie; both were great). They offered a steam room and sauna/ Jacuzzi to guests of the spa as well.
Finally- this hotel is very centrally located to everything in Old Port; we walked everywhere we wanted to go (Trolley tour pick up was close as well as all of the restaurants we ate at in Portland). Kari, OH
8.27.12~ I do a significant amount of travel for work (I was attending a VHA conference this trip) and pleasure and have stayed at several high end chain hotels. It has been a long time since a hotel has exceeded my expectations but the Portland Regency did just that! The staff was friendly and helpful, the hotel was meticulously clean, the room was well appointed, the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in and I loved the balcony! Every detail was considered right down to cotton balls and q-tips.
The only disappointment about this trip is that I had only booked one night! I will definitely be returning to your hotel with my family. Tina, MA
7.11.12~ I stayed in room 407 over the weekend… beautiful. I was told they just opened these rooms at the beginning of the summer and they’re huge! Well appointed, big bathroom (liked the glass shower), and the balcony was the icing on the cake – we sat out there in the sun for hours. Great being right in the Old Port, too! Louis, MA
6.4.12~ We had a wonderful stay at the Regency Saturday night! We were pleasantly surprised to be upgraded to a king room with a balcony! It was a fabulous room….though with the torrential rains we weren’t able to use the deck! Perhaps next time….because we’ll definitely be back this summer!! Thanks again!! Chris, MA
5.7.12~ I had impeccable service while staying at the Regency! Clean rooms, very helpful staff, wonderful ammenities. Jose, the valet, was particularly helpful and Nadia did a wonderful job with my room. Thank you so much and I’ll be sure to recommend the Regency to anyone who asks! Brenda, ME
4.23.12~ We came to stay at your hotel because we went to a wedding that was held there. The two night stay was extremely relaxing. Our room was very clean and I was impressed that the bed mattress and box spring were covered completely assuring us that the bed was free of any bedbugs. We and our friends have gotten into the habit of looking at rooms and beds to be sure of their cleanliness. We ate dinner in the hotel’s dinning room and the food was delicious, the service excellent and we never felt rushed which was wonderful because we were with friends we hadn’t seen in some time and were catching up on news. We also had breakfast delivered to our room one morning and it was hot and again delicious. The history of the hotel was so interesting from how the building started to where it is today. It would be a pleasure to recommend your hotel and we would stay there again if coming up to that area, perhaps staying in one of the rooms on the upper floors being remodeled. Thank you to all the staff we came in contact with, you were all helpful and friendly. Mary, MA
3.4.12~ My husband and I have stayed at the Regency several times over the years and have been exceptionally pleased with the accommodations, service, staff and facilities. We brought friends to experience it this time and they too thought it splendid! We will return!
Thank you again for a wonderful get away! Randi, ME
2.19.12~ I can’t say enough good things about the people who work at the Portland Regency. Everyone is there to make your visit the best possible. The accommodations are very comfortable and extremely clean and inviting. We are really looking forward to our next stay at the Regency. Rebecca, VT
1.21.12~ From the minute we walked in we were made to feel comfortable.the hotel is going through a renovation but everyone was so pleasant and accommadating.Loved the area also. Linda, NY
12.25.11~ We come every year at Christmas and our stay is always great. Phil and Cyndi, ME
12.24.11~ Have been here 1/2 dozen times. Staff always helpful, courteous & friendly. Steve and Anne, MA
12.23.11~ The service was amazing, the staff is friendly and helpfu. The decor and facilities were above expectations. I wish every have ever stayed embraced the same level of service and pride as Portland Regency. It’s been an amazing stay and all around memorable experience. Thank you! Sheri, MD
12.12.11~I loved every minute of my stay at the Regency, and my only regret is that it was not longer! Thanks to all who made my visit so pleasant. Liza, TX
11.28.11~ It’s always hard to know where to start. Our trips to Portland and the Portland Regency have become increasingly important to us. We love being there and miss it terribly when it’s been a while.
The staff are always wonderful. It was great to see our “old” friends at Reception — Matt, Jen, Marilyn, Courtney and Sandy as well as our “new” friends Naomi, Rachel, Carolyn and Courtney. Each and every one makes us feel welcome and puts up with our frequent visits to the desk. 🙂 The staff are so versatile that I even learned from them what a hot glue gun is. (Okay, don’t ask…)
John at 20 Milk takes incredible care of us for breakfast. It’s hard to imagine a morning without him!! Michael, Agi and Mike (from Randolph) are great too!!!
We can never say enough about the Armory crew. It’s like coming home to see Ben, Mike, Simone,
Margaret, David and Natasha, as well as meet Stacy and Bogdana.
When we first arrive we always see one of the fabulous concierge staff first. Barry, Tim, Jose, Siso, Braulio and Andy are so helpful in so many ways. A special thank you to Andy for being an invaluable resource for our trip to Glacier National Park in September.
It’s nice to see Emily back in the Regency family in the spa. It was nice to meet Amanda who gave an AWESOME massage — I think the most relaxed I’ve EVER been without the assistance of an alcoholic beverage!!!!
Each and every person on staff is cordial and helpful. I know I haven’t mentioned EVERY name but the sentiments are the same. We are looking forward to seeing all of you for the New Year’s Holiday weekend.
Thank you again for making our time SO special. Have a wonderful Holiday Season!!!! Mike & Laura, CT
11.21.11~ Just a note to thank you once again for a great weekend in Portland. Your location could not be more central to what we love about Portland. The staff is most welcoming.
Upon checkout we reported to the front desk that a ghost had broken a champagne glass near the hot tub, they were most understanding. See you again. Dan & Joanne, NH
10.18.11~ Recently stayed with a group at The Regency Hotel & Spa in Portland, ME. Great food and great service from the entire staff. Ironically, I did not use the Spa, but did use their exercise room and sauna (at no cost).
If you are from the Midwest and crave lobster on your visit to Maine, go nowhere else! The hotel features, daily, a Crossiant Lobster Roll that is just what you were looking for. Each day I was up for breakfast and warmly greeted in the restaurant, by my name after the first visit. When my friends arrived, the General Manager was helping unload their bags. LLoyd IA
I would highly recommend the Portland. As stated in other reviews, the location is second to none, the lounge and restaurant are great also. Next time I will try the spa!
Thank you for a wonderful stay!! Kelly, MO
9.22.11~Every employee that I encountered at the hotel was exceptional. (the guys out front, front desk, spa girls) I would definitely stay at the Regency again if we come to Portland again. Kate S, Kingston NY
9.5.11~ We stayed here for a couple of nights for business trip and was quite pleased. The interior of the place has that old upscale feel with its elaborate marble floors. I was quite intrigued with the architecture, some of the guests were telling me it used to be an armory years ago. If you plan to stay here I suggest asking to be roomed in the second floor to adore the large windows.
I did get a kick out of it that they would clean up your room twice a day. There is a nice bar downstairs that is opened till midnight. Conveniently close to everything especially the port. I had one of the most magnificent morning runs around the port capturing a glimpse of the sunrise through the patches of clouds.
The service here is great, well accommodated and quick response. I enjoyed my stay here due to the fact that the hotel isn’t as large as the others. If gives you a sensibility of small town, awesome hospitality, bravo! Enrique G, Los Angeles CA
8.25.11~ We stayed here for part of our honeymoon and we were upgraded to a king size suite. Loved the historical decor of hotel. In our room, we had a beautiful working fireplace, spa tub, and relaxing shower. Staff and service were impeccable. The hotel is in the BEST location of Old Port and downtown Portland. You are within walking distance to shopping and great restaurants. Try the Porthole for breakfast–they have sausage balls instead of links or patties, and J’s Oyster for seafood…..We will definitely be back! Sara, Rochester NY
8.22.11~ We stayed at the Regency for one night. The rooms were comfortable and clean. The staff was very helpful and we felt well treated. We will stay the next time we come to Portland for a weekend getaway. MS, Wellesley MA
8.20.11~ We stayed at your facility July 27-Aug 2. It was a great stay and we liked the hotel alot! We ate breakfast most mornings in your restaurant and John, our waiter was wonderful, very polite and offered great service! I had a massage while there and it was also great. Thanks so much for making our stay enjoyable. We hope to return to Portland someday and will definately book with you. MB, Hoisington KS
4.19.11~ This a very nice hotel and feels upscale, but is not too expensive. It is within 3 blocks of dozens of restaurants and shops, as well as the waterfront. It has a great fitness center in the basement a nice lounge. We didn’t eat at the restaurant b/c there was so much else around, but it looked nice too. The only complaint I would have is that lack of parking, but the valet service is only $12 a day, which isn’t too bad. Our room did not have a traditional window, more of a skylight, but it let in plenty of light and the room did not feel cramp like one of the other reviews suggested. We’ll definitely be back. CH, Fairfax VA
2.2.11~The Regency is everything you expect when you visit Old Portland. The rooms are tastefully decorated, the staff is amazingly helpful and the beds are very comfortable. We will return and stay longer! Deb, Niagara Falls NY
9.28.10~I was very impressed with the Portland Regency. It’s a historic hotel right downtown within walking distance to all the cute shops and restaurants. The staff was super friendly and I had no difficulties checking in. This is the only hotel I’ve been to in years that still has actual keys. I thought that was adorable.
Our room was pretty big with a sloping ceiling and skylight. The bed was super comfy and everything seemed clean and fresh. MarjieT, Saint Louis MO
9.2.10~ We were in Portland, Maine on my birthday weekend and we stayed at this historic hotel in downtown Portland. It’s located centrally and in walking distance to all the things that need to be seen!
The staff was wonderful and our room was charming. Very well maintained. There was also a bar on the first floor that was quite happening the night we stayed there!
This hotel is definitely worth a stay! MT, Norwood MA
05.29.10 ~ My husband and I stayed at the Regency for one night on 5/15. It was our first night away since our daughter was born three years ago! Thank you for helping to make our big date night one to remember! The hotel was very nice and the location was unbeatable. The staff were amazingly friendly and pleasant at all hours…the overall experience was excellent. J.H. from MA
05.19.10 ~ We have been visiting [The Regency] every year for quite a few years….I always ask for a quiet room due to an illness and you accommodated me yet again. There are so many incredible places to eat in the Old Port, but we always end up back at the hotel for dinner and breakfast. Hopefully we’ll see you again in June. S.S. from Jefferson, MA
05.12.10 ~ Besides loving Portland, we have grown to look forward to our next stay at the Regency also. And yes, we have lots of hotels to choose from. The first impression is always the valet staff…..that experience can set the tone for the entire stay…..we were well taken care of and greeted warmly. Upon checkout, our luggage was packed with care and thought into our trunk before we even made it outside…..there is a definite professionalism throughout the hotel from the front desk to housekeeping. We’ll be back. B.E. & K.E.
05.10.10 ~ Thank you for providing such outstanding service and hospitality during our stay on Saturday night, May 1. My wife and I were spending a rare night away from our two young children and hoping for a romantic, relaxing, fun-filled weekend, and the city of Portland came through for us in every respect, beginning with the moment we arrived at your front door. Your staff made us feel most welcome, they helped us store our bicycles, and they provided some great suggestions on where to bike, shop, and eat. We’ll definitely be back! P.M. from Ellsworth, ME
